There is a lot going on in Gainesville, Georgia. People to meet, new places to explore, roads to go running on. Churches to connect with, involvement in the local Latino community, worship with friends. Leadership training, courses on identity and professionalism, an apprenticeship where I mobilize missionaries to Southeast Asia.
All the good things; more than can fit in a day. But I continue finding myself refocusing on my mission here.
Yes, this season will be filled with new friends, fun experiences, and great memories. I’ll certainly experience my share of emails, meetings, and to do lists.
But when I step out of this season into the next, I want to take more with me than a few more friends and the ability to complete a project.
My calling is to influence and disciple multi-cultural groups of people. And even though it’s sometimes the specifics of this that are a bit cloudy, I know this is what gets my heart excited and this is what the Lord is speaking into me.
This season is about surrounding myself with other Kingdom minded people. People with influence and who are full of wisdom who will help me step more into my calling. I’ll be discipled so I can learn what it means to disciple.
Through the day to day activities, I look to the ultimate example of a leader, Jesus Christ. In my leadership class we each read through an entire book of the Gospels to get a glimpse of the leadership qualities of Christ. Throughout the book of Mark, I was constantly reminded of his focus on his mission.
In Mark 1:14-15, he makes it clear why he had arrived. He was clear about his mission and his expectation of bringing the Kingdom during that season.
In Mark 3:13-19, we see he surrounded himself with a team of people to carry out his mission with him.
In Mark 16:14-20, the great commission, he empowered the disciples to continue his mission, taking it throughout the entire world. In other words, he finished well so his mission could continue.
In this season, I am following Jesus’ lead in focusing on the things that matter, surrounding myself with others that will help me along the way, and finishing well so I can take that next step into my calling.
In your life, what areas can you apply the same focus?
Starting at the beginning of October, I will be sending a monthly newsletter with details on what I am up to at the Center For Global Action, the latest news from Adventures in Missions, personal updates, and prayer requests. If you would like to subscribe, please send me your email address at [email protected].
Each Friday I’ll be posting a new blog about stories from my time in Georgia!
My first support deadline has been met and I currently have raised $3,000 to fund my living and program costs for the Center of Global Action. Thank you to all of you who have partnered with me financially so far. To continue in this season of equipping and serving, I need to raise just under $1,000 to meet my final goal.
Would you prayerfully consider partnering with me? Your partnership blesses me and Adventures in Missions as I step further into my calling. Gifts of all amounts are appreciated and can be given easily online by clicking the “Support Me!” link on the left side of the page.
As always, thank you for your financial support, your encouragement, and your prayers!
